Bulacan Kuyas-Mighty Sports survive host team Pampanga Lanterns, 67-65, snapping their 2-game losing skid last Monday night at the Angeles University Foundation Arena.
The Caesar Wongchuking-powered Kuyas turned to JR Taganas and Jorey Napoles who delievered crucial baskets in the final period to put their team back on track improving to a 9-5 win-loss card.
MPBL rebounding leader Taganas made a decisive putback in the final minute placing the Kuyas ahead, 65-61.
Lanterns’ Levi Hernandez followed up with a basket putting the Lanterns within a basket.
Bulacan responded with their signature drive and dish offense allowing Napoles to blink past Jimbo Aquino off the dribble grabbing a 67-63 advantage with 37 seconds remaining on the clock.
Pampanga almost overtook the Kuyas when Aquino was fouled during a three-point attempt. However, the ex-pro missed all charities but quickly redeemed himself with an offensive rebound.
Hernandez then came up with a basket to pull the Lanterns close 67-65 with 15 seconds left.
Kuyas’ James Martinez lost the ball in the sidelines after defensive pressure by Juneric Baloria allowing the Lanterns to decide for a tying or winning basket.
The Lanterns opted for a winning shot as Michael Juico drove hard to the basket to find an open Pari Llagas for an open trey.
Unfortunately, Llagas completely missed the three-point shot allowing Bulacan to flee with a win.
