Bulacan Kuyas-Mighty Sports are on a hot 3-game winning streak after sinking the frustrated Quezon City-Black Mamba Capitals, 61-55, at the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup double header yesterday.
The Capitals came up short in their new home floor at the Henry Noble gym of the Trinity University of Asia as the Kuyas flexed their muscle in the rebounding department.
JR Taganas followed up his monstrous effort last game with 21 rebounds to lead Bulacan despite scoring 4 points.
The Caesar Wongchuking and Mighty Sports-sponsored squad also had a balanced attack with Jovit dela Cruz leading the way to score 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Quezon City was led by Jessie James Collado, Hased Gabo and Andrew Estrella who had 12 points apiece. The home team played without PBA ex-pro Jojo Duncil.
One glaring hole in the Capitals’ offense was their 0-for-19 three-point attempts (27-of-73 total field goals) due to Bulacan’s stifling defense.
Bulacan easily dominated their opponent in rebounds 63-38.
Despite committing a game-high 18 turnovers, the Kuyas made up for their errors by playing well on D and seizing their second chances while posting an accurate 80% clip in the free throw line sinking 12 of their 15 attempts.
The pink jersey squad now improve to 8-3 while Quezon City fall to 2-6.
In the first game, the Rizal Crusaders handed the San Juan Knights-Go for Gold their second loss in 10 games with an 85-77 victory.
The Crusaders now improve to 4-7 but are still far from the playoff race.
