The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has ventured into a partnership with Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories to become the official merchandiser and outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas.
The formal announcement was held at the Meralco Building in Ortigas on July 13.
Mighty Sports will produce and sell merchandise promoting the Gilas Pilipinas brand as stated in the agreement.
The newly-rebranded sportswear manufacturer came to the fore after meeting with the SBP to explore the venture.
“The SBP was hoping some private organizations can help them. And we offered them our help through the merchandising since we’re trying to build the business. So in a way, we’re helping the SBP and helping the country. So it’s a two-way partnership,” said Mighty Sports president Dr. John Sy.
Also present in the affair were SBP president Al Panlilio, Mighty Sports owner Caesar Wongchuking, team manager Angelo Wongchuking, SBP executive director Sonny Barrios, SBP special assistant to the president Ryan Gregorio, Gilas team manager Gabby Cui and Cignal TV president and CEO Jane Basas.
SBP chairman emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan, who also attended, was presented with his own Mighty Sports jersey.
The expected Gilas merchandise will come in the form of hoodies, shirts, socks, caps while Mighty Sports may present additional concepts that can help promote the Gilas brand.
Sy meanwhile assured that the merchandise will be made affordable and the designs appealing so that the customers will proudly represent the national basketball team.
The merchandise will soon be available in malls, department stores and through online stores.
